This course aims to provide the training for candidates to provide elementary first aid on board ship, in accordance with Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code. This course covers the requirements of the 1995 STCW code Convention Chapter VI, Section AV/1, Table A-VI/1-3.

 

WHY ELEMENTARY FIRST AID?
On meeting the minimum standard of competence in elementary first aid, a trainee will be competent to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or medical emergency until the arrival of a person with medical first aid skills or the person in charge of medical care on board.

 

WHO IS ELEMENTARY FIRSTY AID FOR?
This course is part of the mandatory basic offshore safety training for all seafarers and personnel working on board of a drill ship, support boat or any other sea vessel.

 

DELIVERY FORMAT
Classroom of virtual live sessions with remotely located top class STCW approved instructor.

Participants who successfully complete the training are awarded internationally recognized STCW Elementary First Aid certificate.

ELEMENTARY FIRST AID COVERS

  • Applying immediate first aid in the event of an accident/injury on board ship
  • Actions on discovering a casualty
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Recovery position
  • Fractures
  • Spinal injuries
  • Examination of a casualty
  • Medical conditions including heart attack, choking & asthma
  • Treatment of bleeding, burns & shock
  • Transporting a casualty onboard ship

 

EXAMS

  • This course ends with a mandatory written exam for participants to be granted a globally recognised certificate of STCW Elementary First Aid.
  • Evaluation using a multi-format question paper and a multiple choice hazard spotting exercise
  • The exam must be taken during the course in the class in the instructors’ presence.

 

CERTIFICATION

  • The STCW Elementary First Aid certificate will be granted only for those who successfully pass the exam.
  • An STCW Certificate is a valuable international asset that is recognised worldwide in the oil & gas sector as well as other industries.
